About the Provincial Wound Program

The Wound Management Program was started by the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness (DHW) in April 2021. DHW has partnered with Heath Association Nova Scotia (HANS)/igility to oversee and deliver the provincial program by supporting the continuing care sector which includes all the licensed funded long-term care providers and DHW-funded home care providers that provide nursing services.

The foundation for this program is assisting the sector in taking a consistent approach in the prevention and management of evidence-informed wound care, improve wound management outcomes and build capacity through knowledge transfer within the continuing care sector.

igility provides clinical support through a Professional Development Coordinator, a Provincial Program Manager, and five Wound Consultants covering all zones across Nova Scotia. This program enables the continuing care sector to send referrals to the consultants who then can provide treatment suggestions, wound education, and onsite home visits.

Wound Care Champion Education Program

Beginning June 2023, igility’s wound care department will provide province wide Wound Care Education. This will be provided to 100 employees within the LTC sector and will span over a course of 2 years, with funding from the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness.
