In the Spring of 2023, in partnership with Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care (DSLTC) igility began working with the Home Care and Support Sector to assist with developing Business Continuity Plans (BCP) to address provincial challenges when crises occur. Throughout the year, the team has been working to further develop this program to ensure the sector is prepared in an emergency.

The pivotal Steering Committee meeting on October 5, 2023, marked a significant milestone. During this gathering, the committee not only reviewed the progress made but also gave the green light to the BCP templates. This approval serves as a testament to the meticulous planning and dedication invested in this initiative. Additionally, the meeting laid out the roadmap for the upcoming phases, steering the program towards its next crucial steps.

With the approved templates in hand, the team wasted no time in setting the initial dates for BCP development. Recognizing the importance of collaboration, igility facilitated workshops across the Home Care and Support sector on October 25 and 27. These sessions introduced stakeholders to the intricacies of the BCP templates, gathering feedback and input from each agency to tailor the templates for each agency.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to move forward, the focus shifts to continuing to develop the BCP plans for each agency across the Home Care and Support Sector and continue to provide assistance where needed. Simultaneously, the preparation of an Emergency Equipment list for procurement is underway to support the BCP plans. Additionally, the groundwork for Tabletop exercises, including scenario preparation and process establishment, will enhance our proactive approach to emergency response for the Home Care and Home Support Sector.

As we navigate the complexities of emergency preparedness, the collaboration between igility and its partners stands as a beacon of resilience. Together, we are steering towards a future where Nova Scotia is not just prepared but fortified against the uncertainties that may lie ahead.
