In a world where natural disasters, pandemics, and cyber-attacks are becoming increasingly frequent, it is crucial to be prepared for emergencies. The ability to respond to these crises in a timely and effective manner can make all the difference in protecting lives and minimizing damage. This is where igility Services comes in.

With the help of HANS’s over 60 years of healthcare expertise, igility began working with the Home Care and Support Sector in collaboration with the Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care (DSLTC) to assist with developing Business Continuity Plans (BCP) to address these challenges. BCPs are designed to protect personnel and assets and ensure that they can function quickly when disaster strikes. As well, developing a relevant registry that lists each patient according to urgency. The program highlights all hazardous incidents and develops systems and processes to respond to emergencies.

From snow storms to hurricanes to flash freezing, Nova Scotia’s weather can be quite unpredictable. Even power outages can affect how home care clients are cared for—which is why a communications system will also be established for this instance. When this happens, we need to have plans in place to ensure that people at home can always be supported. Publicly funded home care and home support agencies will be provided with an all hazards BCP which will be done in two parts:

  1. The development of a standardized, individual BCP.
  2. Purchasing the necessary equipment that supports the BCP.

While having the right resources and equipment in place is important, it is also about the community approach to being prepared in emergencies. The value of coming together to support each other cannot be overstated. By leveraging community centres, fire halls, and other local resources, we can ensure that we are all better equipped to respond to emergencies. This initiative will help to bring people together in a time of need, and will build more resilient communities.

Being prepared in emergencies is essential. It can mean the difference between life and death, and it can help minimize damage to assets and businesses. Igility‘s BCP program is an excellent example of a proactive approach to emergency preparedness, and our commitment to providing efficiency. By highlighting hazardous incidents, developing systems and processes, and leveraging local resources, igility is helping to build a stronger home support sector.
