Finance Associate — Financial Services

Health Association Nova Scotia (HANS) is a not-for-profit, non-government, membership-based association with 60 years’ experience in delivering shared services for a wide range of health and health-related organizations. Our core services include Clinical Engineering Services, Group Benefits Solutions, and Labour Relations and Compensation Analysis. Additionally, we provide policy support for our continuing care members, assisting them to promote positive change in Nova Scotia’s continuing care sector. Health Association Nova Scotia is a joint sponsor of the Nova Scotia Health Employees’ Pension Plan.

DUTIES:

The Finance Associate will help the department with processing work in accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger and expense claims.  The associate will also assist with services to clients and members and other general accounting functions (e.g., client invoicing, bank reconciliations/deposits, account reconciliations) to support the department’s operations. The finance associate is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of accounting transaction work, supporting the needs of clients and other general accounting functions.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Provision of customer service to clients
  • Excellent communication skills, in particular verbal and written communications
  • Work in excel sheets and account reconciliations to support the department
  • Working with a leading cloud-based software solution, including trouble shooting client issues and responding to client with solutions
  • Performing other general accounting functions

QUALIFICATIONS:

As the ideal candidate, you have experience in general accounting and finance functions, e.g., accounts payable, accounts receivables, general ledger, account reconciliations, etc.   Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with clients and customers, and a high level of capability in the areas of analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to organize and prioritize work.  Experience in MS Office solutions (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and using financial systems and databases. Competency in Excel with experience using high-level commands like pivot tables and formulas would be required for this position.  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.  You have a college diploma in business, or university degree in business with a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
