About The Birches:

The Birches is a licensed long term care facility providing services for 42 residents with a staff of approximately 80 employees supporting the organization. Our rural location and culture provide a unique opportunity for living and working. Our home was recently announced for replacement and a new journey is ahead for the team to transition into a new facility. The Birches is part of a shared management team with Ocean View Continuing Care Centre and the Director of Resident and Family Experience works closely within a larger management team to build capacity and resources.

About the Role:

We are currently searching for a Director of Care. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role is responsible for the following areas:

  • Accountable for development, implementation, and evaluation of a model of care that best suits the needs of residents and families and optimizes their experience.
  • Dedicated to the health & safety of both residents and staff
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates care related policies and procedures, assuring they are based on best practice.
  • Assures that accreditation and licensing standards that guide care and services are utilized in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all services
  • Ensures planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating of all infection control practices and coordinates education to ensure best practices are followed
  • Supports strategic, financial, and operational planning
  • Participates, as required, in the tendering process for capital or other operational resources utilized.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to quality and promotes a quality culture
  • Works closely with the Director of Human Resources to ensure all strategic HR objectives are being met including training, development, engagement, and recruitment retention initiatives.
  • Participates in labour relations activities which may include bargaining and labour management committees

What we are looking for:

  • Current RN license to practice in Nova Scotia or willingness to obtain the same prior to commencement of employment
  • 3 years long-term care experience in a Registered Nurse role preferably in an Accredited health care environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
  • A collaborative leader with experience preferably in a unionized environment
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for building relationships
  • Experience leading teams and organizations through transition and change
  • A passion for working with seniors in a long-term care setting
  • Access to transportation to allow for travel from site to site

What we offer:

We offer a competitive salary/benefits package and support for continuing education.  A $10,000 signing bonus will be offered with a 2-year return of service.
